The Ian Potter Foundation engages the US-based Centre for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) to conduct the Grantee Perception Survey every five years.
First undertaken in 2015 and again in 2021, the survey provides a comprehensive benchmarking report providing an independent view of grant recipients' experience with the Foundation, as well as insights into our effectiveness as a funder.
Following the 2021 CEP survey results, the Foundation continued to refine its systems and processes to continuously improve its grantmaking practice.
The latest CEP survey was launched in April 2026; 200 recent grant recipients were invited to participate, with 118 responding.
The 2026 CEP survey results show that grantee perceptions of the Foundation have remained positive and strengthened across the areas measured.

In support of this recommendation, we have committed staff resources to help our grant recipients connect with each other, identify and share useful resources and communicate their successes to the wider sector.
In support of this recommendation, we are looking at the frequency of interactions throughout a grant, including site visits, phone catch-ups, attending conferences and other sector-specific events.
In response, we are trialling changes to reporting processes to reduce the burden, particularly for smaller organisations.
