IPF Disability Employment Forum

Throughout 2016, the Foundation has hosted forums on various issues relating to some of our program area funding objectives.

On Thursday, 27 October 2016, the Foundation held a Disability Employment Forum. Eleven grantee organisations, that had received disability-employment-related grants in the past, were invited to attend with nine organisations sending representatives to the half-day forum.

The agenda included formal presentations as well as opportunities for the grantees to discuss issues of interest. Prior to the forum, all invited grantees were surveyed and asked what would be valuable for them in a forum. The top responses were:

  • Hear impressions of the NDIS/JobAcess Gateway roll out
  • Discuss the most important issues and opportunities currently facing the sector
  • Discuss aspects of the sector that work well and what can be improved, and
  • Hear and share key insights and learnings from grantees projects.

Forum participants were also asked to suggest guest speakers. Four speakers were nominated, all were invited, with two able to attend: Paul Cain from Inclusion Australia and Lucy Macali from the Office for Disability, DHHS-Vic.

Participants rated the forum as highly successful (average rating was 95/100). In addition to hearing from speakers, grantees were encouraged to network and collaborate on future projects.  As one participant commented, “It’s an exciting sector to be involved in, I think collaboration and the NDIS is key in really breaking down the barriers of disability employment!”

In 2017, the Foundation will be running similar forums for our grantees from the Arts, Community Wellbeing and Education sectors.
